Apple just blew up the rules of how AI works on your phone — and if you use Claude, ChatGPT, or Gemini for work, this is worth paying attention to.
iOS 27 Lets You Pick Your Own AI — And Use It Everywhere
Starting this fall, your iPhone won't force you into one AI model. Apple announced a new system called Extensions at WWDC 2026, and it's a bigger deal than the headline suggests. Instead of Siri defaulting to ChatGPT (or Apple's own model), you'll be able to set Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT as your preferred AI — and it will power Siri, Writing Tools, and Image Playground across your entire device.
Think about what that actually means for your workflow. If you use Claude for client work, you can now have it answer Siri questions, rewrite emails in the Writing Tools popover, and generate images — all without switching apps. Same goes for ChatGPT or Gemini if that's your preference. Apple is even letting you mix and match: research queries to Gemini, coding help to Claude, creative writing to ChatGPT.
The developer beta dropped June 8. Public beta comes in July. The full release hits in fall 2026. That gives you a few months to figure out which AI you want running the show on your phone — and it's worth thinking through now rather than defaulting to whatever Apple picks for you.
